A common problem with aerobic treatment is the growth of filamentous bacteria. Marel Water Treatment’s Selector, also referred to as a contact tank, prevents this growth by using flocculent bacterial groups. They displace the filamentous bacteria in the absorption of food and thus their growth. Flocculent bacteria are separated from the effluent more easily than filamentous bacteria.
Filamentous bacteria cause problems such as:
- Foam formation
- Light sludge
- Breakdown of sludge
- Reduction of the treatment efficiency
- Reduction of oxygen transfer
