Sludge treatment

As a supplier of total solutions. AQUA Industrial Watertreatment delivers not only water treatment systems but also sludge treatment solutions.

Sludge Digestion

  • Anaerobic digestion (CSTR)
Pre-treatment sludge, with often a very high fat content is pumped in to a fully closed tank. The sludge is continuously stirred and will have a retention time of 20 – 40 days. It is converted, under anaerobic conditions, into a completely stabilised sludge suitable for use as compost. An advantage of this system is that biogas is produced. Depending on the amounts of methane gas, a CHP unit can be powered.
  • Aerobic digestion (ASR)
Pre-treatment sludge, with often a very high fat content is pumped in to an aerated tank. This tank, with a unique aeration system will convert the fatty sludge into a completely stabilised bio-sludge which is suitable for use as compost.
This system has been developed by Carbofil in France.

Water Extraction / Dewatering

  • Belt Filter Press
Water is pressed out of the sludge by two filter belts and often preceded by an initial pre-dewatering belt. The belts are cleaned continuously during operation of the unit and therefore do not influence the up-time of the press.
  • Decanter Centrifuge
In a decanter centrifuge, the water is extracted from the sludge by applying a (centrifugal) pressure that is 4100 times higher than gravity. This results in a high degree of dry solids.
  • Chamber Filter Press
